Q: Chrissie, what inspired you to write I left my heart in Petra? A: A number of years ago the author Belinda Jones ran a writing competition called Sunlounger Stories. I left my heart in Petra was the short story I wrote for the competition submission. Whilst the judges loved it, it didn’t win, but they suggested I should still publish it anyway, which I finally decided to do in 2019. I chose Petra in Jordan as it’s one of my favourite ancient sites and just wonderful to visit.
Q: What research was involved in writingI left my heart in Petra? A: Unlike some of my other books and stories, the research for I left my heart in Petra was minimal. I had already done a lot of research on Petra, Jordan for my first book Nabataea, so it was more a case of referring to past research notes and double checking facts.
Q: Which one of your characters fromI left my heart in Petra would you go travelling with? A: I would probably choose Maisie. She’s quite quirky and also works in the TV both worked on as well as the interesting people we met along the way!
Q:Do you have a favourite or special story you’d like to share about the journey to write and publishI left my heart in Petra? A: This short story is one that’s out of my normal writing comfort zone. Whilst it’s set in a historical location, it’s a different genre; comedy with a little romance. Also working a short story is very different to a normal novel. It felt strange writing something that had no dark side to it, that instead was light-hearted and fun. I did enjoy it though.
Q: And finally, as a reader what should we expect fromI left my heart in Petra? A: I left my heart in Petra is a short read that's fun, engaging and will introduce you to a new location you may never have visited before.
On location in Petra!
Petra is one of those places you're unable to really comprehend until you finally see it for yourself. I went there with my husband whilst we were on our honeymoon in Israel. We border hopped, and enjoyed a great time exploring the ancient site, taking in the tombs, amphitheatre and other ancient buildings that make up this fascinating place. I fell in love with Petra instantly. It was always somewhere I had wanted to go, it didn't disappoint and it took my breath away. It's a trip I'll never forget. The photos below are some of the images from my visit.
