Wind Across the Nile Book description

Picture
Can she survive where her ancestors failed?

Suffering with grief after the tragic death of her family, Cora Thomas flees to Egypt, desperate to escape the overwhelming loss.

In Luxor, she meets gruff Egyptologist Nick Foster who wants little to do with her, and his employee Sam, who instantly becomes a much sought-after friend.
As she settles into life along the Nile, discovering the country’s vast history and culture, Cora learns about the contents of an old diary discovered in her parents’ home. As the diary’s story unfolds, it reveals hardship, love, tragedy and a potentially life-threatening family feud spanning generations.

From the rolling hills of the Scottish Highlands to the ruinous sands of the Egyptian desert, Wind across the Nile is a story of unbreakable family bonds, adversity and self-preservation.

Wind Across the Nile interview

Q: Chrissie, what inspired you to write Wind Across the Nile?
A:
I have a huge passion for history, especially Egyptian history. I wanted to write a book that highlighted the traditions and culture of Egypt, as well as the history and the issue of artefact theft that the country has suffered from.

Q: What research was involved in writing Wind Across the Nile?
A:
There was a lot of research involved, not only about the history of the country, but also about the numerous ancient sites. In 2010, 2012 and 2016 I completed three courses with Exeter University on Archaeological Techniques, Ancient Egypt, the middle Kingdom and Ancient Egypt, the Early  Kingdom. I also collect a lot of books, and have 93 books about Egypt. These all became my research sources for this book! Memories from multiple tripos to Egypt also helped too!

Q: Which one of your characters from Wind Across the Nile would you go travelling with?
A:
I would love to go travelling with Nick and his Archaeological team. Exploring ancient historical sites, furthering my historical knowledge and discovering lots of new places would be absolutely incredible. It would be like taking the trip of a lifetime!

Q: Do you have a favourite or special story you’d like to share about the journey to write and publish Wind Across the Nile?
A:
I have visited Egypt multiple times and I knew it was a place I wanted to write about. I know that “history" isn’t for everyone, but a number of readers have contacted me to tell me that reading this book made them want to learn more about Egypt and it’s history; something they didn’t know much about. It’s heartwarming to know that a fictional book can make someone want to discover more about a location and it’s history.

Q: And finally, as a reader what should we expect from Wind Across the Nile?
A:
Wind Across The Nile is a strong story that explores family heritage, immerses readers into modern day Egypt whilst also connecting them to the grandeur and splendour of the golden age of the Pharaohs. It’s fast paced, with interesting characters and will keep readers entertained whilst also showing them all the things I love about Egypt.

On location in Egypt

There's no place in the world as magical as Egypt. It's a country that's stuffed full of culture, history and tradition.
As well as the frenetic city of Cairo, with the staggering Giza Plateau close by, its wonderful Souk and the impressive Citadel, there are many other places along the river Nile that are worth visiting, such as Luxor and Aswan. It's a mystical country, filled with intrigue and incredible history that takes your breath away. My trips to Egypt were some of the best international trips I've ever made and I hope to return to the country again in the future. The photos below are some of the images from my visits to Cairo and Luxor.
